Personal Best: Fiona Conroy

Director of Media Rights & Sales

Best sports marketing campaign (that wasn’t yours):

Nike - Dream Crazy and Nike – Dream Crazier are both fabulous – emotive and very real. I still get goosebumps when I watch them!

Best agency (that isn’t yours):

For me, this has to be Spring Media. Started by three young men 11 years ago, they have grown from strength to strength but still retain the same ethos that that had all those years ago. They are hardworking, honest and helpful always, as are all that they employ!

Best brand ambassador:

Billie Jean King Cup – she truly embodies the values of the Cup that has been named after her

Best Sporting Event attended:

Olympics 2012. I nearly bankrupted myself buying tickets to as many sports as I could. It was fabulous. Davis Cup 2015 Final when GB won was also fantastic!

Best industry event or conference:

Sportel, every time. I’ve only missed it once (plus the covid years!) and I had a very good excuse - my daughter was born that week! It is an excellent opportunity to connect with rights holders, broadcasters and friends within our industry.

Best bar or pub:

Has to be The Boathouse in Putney – situated 200m from our office. They welcome us and our clients regularly and are always happy to see us! I am reliably informed by my colleagues that the beer is really good too!

Best restaurant:

Roka

Best holiday resort:

Sydney – my mum is from there, so I benefit from having a lot of family and friends there, so there’s always someone to hang out and have fun with! It’s a wonderful city and the beaches are fabulous!

Best box set:

Game of Thrones – that got me through covid!

Best film containing a scene depicting the sports business:

The new Luis Figo documentary was remarkable. The drama surrounding that transfer is an incredible story

Dinner Party:

I’m going for Russell Brand, Barack Obama and Jack Whitehall (for very different reasons!) alongside a posthumous trio of Jesus, Shakespeare & Einstein. What an evening that would be…….

Best influence on your career:

Gabrielle Guedj (below) of the ATP and Heather White of Indycar – they pushed me to believe in myself and to be better always. They remain fantastically supportive of me, professionally and personally.

Best job in the sports biz:

Mine – I absolutely love every aspect of it! Great rights holders, great broadcast partners and great colleagues!

Best professional regret:

That I didn’t take the leap into agency life earlier

Best skill you most covet:

Tenacity

Best trait you admire in others:

Resilience

Best overrated virtue:

Being “sooo” busy

Best ambition:

To be remembered as a good person

Best presenter you’ve ever seen:

Sue Barker – synonymous with Wimbledon, she remains the voice of tennis to me.
